“Gentleness is powerful. When we use gentle and loving speech, we are able to transform all the anger, fear, resentment, and suspicion in our communication. The whole intention of loving speech is to understand the other person and to be understood.”

“Women should be tough, tender, laugh as much as possible, and live long lives. The struggle for equality continues unabated, and the woman warrior who is armed with wit and courage will be among the first to celebrate victory.”

Advice to my future self

Don’t worry about who is interested or attracted to you. Before you know it, the one person you’ve been waiting years to be with will come into your life in an excitingly profound way. Work on cultivating meaningful relationships, because nothing else is more important. Strive everyday to find something you are passionate about, and once you find it, never let it go. Become obsessed with it. Let it consume you in a way that no person, place, or thing can take it away from you. A lot of people make young adulthood out to be this time where you get to explore and let loose and make irresponsible decisions without consequences. They’re wrong. Now is the time to observe, to listen, and to become aware of the deepest parts of yourself that have existed since you were born. You are coming into a period of time where your brain is developed enough to understand what is going on around you. It will hurt. You will realize that this world can be a cold place, and most people are only looking out for themselves. You will realize that respect and trust are qualities that are hard to earn and easy to lose. You will realize that everyone around you has their own life, equally as intricate and crazy as yours. You will also realize that separation is an illusion, and every living being is part of a much bigger whole - something you may never truly comprehend. Finally, you will realize that love does exist, and sometimes will be so powerful and overwhelming that it is impossible to contain. Keep the love flowing; it is the fountain of youth and the fountain of life; it is the most important and valuable thing that has, and ever will exist.

“It is okay to be at a place of struggle. Struggle is just another word for growth. Even the most evolved beings find themselves in a place of struggle now and then. In fact, struggle is a sure sign to them that they are expanding; it is their indication of real and important progress. The only one who doesn’t struggle is the one who doesn’t grow. So if you are struggling right now, see it as a terrific sign — and celebrate your struggle.”
